Impacts of Climate Change to Indigenous Peoples in Asia

 Panelists:

  • Jay Jason Pan, representative of TARA-Ping Pu, will share the impacts of drought, flooding and typhoons to indigenous peoples in Taiwan/China
  • Kittisak, Executive Director of Indigenous Peoples Foundation for Education and Environment, Thailand, will share the cases of climate change impacts to the livelihoods and traditional knowledge of Karen and Lua indigenous communities in Thailand; he will also share the human rights violations taking place in indigenous peoples territories in the name of forest conservation
  • Naw Ei Ei Min, Executive Director of Promotion of Indigenous and Nature Together (POINT), will focus on climate change impacts in Myanmar and how are indigenous peoples are engaging with the government on REDD+ (Myanmar)
  • Tunga Rai, Programme Officer of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), will inform about the case of climate change refugee in upper Mustang in the Himalaya of Nepal
  • Ms. Pratima Gurung, Secretary General of Nepal Indigenous Disabled Association (NIDA), will highlight the discrimination of indigenous women, indigenous persons with disabilities and indigenous communities in the Earthquake response in Nepal.
